Volunteers are the family that keeps CAPA together. As a non-profit organization, it’s hard to have enough paid staff to work on all of the child abuse prevention programs and work on our grass-roots fundraising events. So we rely on our volunteers to keep us moving. Our Beaufort County community has always responded to CAPA’s needs, even more so as our needs grow.
Our volunteers have rebuilt our Outreach Center with their sweat, equity and love. We’ve added four new offices, a classroom space, and a work area (totaling 1400 square feet) without hiring very many tradesmen. Three of our volunteers for this project have been recognized by the community for their hard work and dedication to CAPA. They have gone over and above a “normal volunteer’s” dedication by giving up so much of their free time and expertise.
The Marines and Sailors of our community have turned out for this special building project. Responding to our weekly emails, they would spread the word and turn out to help! Our volunteer contractors, Lonnie, Marc, and Ron, would teach each volunteer how to do an assigned task. With smiles, each volunteer would respond to every request. We are so proud to have them as part of the CAPA familyl.
Volunteer Opportunities
Make Time, Make friends, Make a Difference, Volunteer!!! Volunteers are always needed and welcome in all of CAPA's endeavors and there are many different opportunities for individuals of all ages to be of service:
- CAPA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
- CAPA's Closet Treasures Thrift Shop needs volunteers to help sort, price and display items that are donated. The store is also manned by volunteers.
- The Open Arms Shelter uses volunteers to provide recreational activities for the residents, to tutor, bake birthday cakes, provide snacks... just to name a few of the rewarding choices.
- Our prevention and education programs always need to make presentations to both adults and children through curriculums, such as our "Some to Talk To" puppet show or our reading program, "When I Was Little Like You".
- CAPA can always use some extra hands to help work on Fund Raising activities. Volunteers help organize and work at our fund raising events; Pro Challenge Golf Benefit (March), Membership Drive (April and May), CAPA Cafe (July), Ghost Tours (October), Exchange Club Auction (November), Belk Gift Wrap (December)
- Volunteers are needed to provide birthday cakes and/or birthday gifts for children who celebrate their birthdays while living at the shelter.
- Would you like to be an advocate in a Family Court case involving child abuse or neglect?? Join the Guardian ad Litem program. Your investigation and involvement will be done under the supervision of professional staff.
-
Volunteers are the heartbeat of CAPA. Our thrift shop volunteers keep our shop up and running. Our tradesmen volunteers built and remodeled our Outreach Center addition to make it more user-friendly for staff, volunteers and CAPA clients! Our events volunteers make our “fun’draisers fun for all.
We currently need:
Office volunteers (work a 3-4 hour shift weekly),
Thank you to ALL who volunteer for CAPA.
