Postini is a content filtering service to reduce Virus and Spam abuse to your email account.

Set up instructions for

     Postini is an Internet based filtering service we provide all of our customers free of charge to help combat Virus infections and Spam.  It inspects your incoming e-mail for possible virus and junk e-mail, and when it finds either, it quarantines it in your personal message center on the Internet. Unfortunately this service, like all others, is not perfect.  Some suspicious e-mail will get through and some good e-mail may actually be quarantined by mistake. Therefore it is advisable to check your message center often.  This manual will instruct you on how to do that and how to use the features of Postini to your advantage.

When you first signed up with ISLC your Postini account was created for you. Postini is active and filtering from the moment we create your account. E-mail was sent to you containing a TEMPORARY password. This is the first password you will use to log into Postini.  To log into Postini you must first go to our home page – http://www.islc.net  :

 

 

Above, on the Homepage, click on the "log in!" link under Postini.

 There you will see a space for your e-mail address and password.

     Fill in your email address and Temporary password information, and then click on login.  If this is your first time logging in, you should then see something that looks like this: 

 

     This page asks you to change your temporary password you were assigned to a new password you create, so fill in the appropriate information and then click “Save Changes”

You should then something like this:

 

 

     This is your message center.  All your quarantined messages should be displayed here; you have the option to read them, by clicking on the subject line of the message. You also can delete the messages by checking the box next to a message and then clicking on the delete button at the top or bottom of the list. If the message is something you want to keep simply check the box next to the message and then click on the deliver button at the top or bottom of the list.

 

     If you would like to change the settings for your junk e-mail protection you would click on the link at the top that says junk–email next to a green circle. That will bring you to the settings page:

 

 

 

     Here you can change your filter sensitivity from normal to Aggressive or Passive. You can also add senders to block permanently or senders to always allow through, such as friends or family, by simply clicking on the appropriate links. When finished, simply click on the “Log-Out” link in the top-right.

 

Password Problems: 

     If for some reason you lose your password or need to reset it, simply try to log in with an incorrect password, REMEMBER to put in the correct e-mail address.  You may need to try more than one time, but it will come up with this screen: 

 

 

     If you forgot your password, click on the blue link  “Forgot your password?” shown on the previous page.  This link will bring up a page confirming that you forgot your password. Confirm it and e-mail will be sent to you containing your new temporary password. You can then use that to log in as normal, and then change it backs to whatever you want, as you did the first time.

 

     Postini can be a useful tool in the fight against spam and Virus infections. But as we said, it is not perfect. Please remember, this is NOT a replacement for software based Virus Scanning software!  Postini is just an added line of defense. If at any time you decide you no longer want Postini to be active on your account, just click on the junk e-mail setting button, and then click the “OFF” button as illustrated here:

There are a few things to remember when dealing with your Postini account:

 

  1. Your Postini Login Name will always be your FULL e-mail address.

      (i.e. customer@islc.net)

  1. Your Postini Password will not be the same as your ISLC password, UNLESS you change it to that.
  2. Postini is not a substitute for you basic Antivirus software such as Norton or McAfee. Postini is intended as an added line of defense against Email Viruses and Spam.
