Final Thoughts

Thank you for taking the time to view this page. A lot of the information in it was from stories my dad had told me throughout the years. Please check back from time to time, as I will be updating it as I receive new photos and information from my family and friends. Also special thanks to Box 174 Boston Fire Buff Club, Toads Fire Pad and Boston Fire Department's public relations department as they contributed greatly to this page and to my beautiful wife who has put up with me and supported me while I dedicated my time to this site. I couldn't have done it without her.  Please take the time to sign my guestbook below and  let me know how you found me and what you thought. However, just leaving your name and letting me know who stopped by would be greatly appreciated.

The Byrne family tree runs deep with many branches, the seeds of which weren't even planted here in this country, yet a family that gave so much, not only to the city of Boston, but America. They fought for our homes in our neighborhoods, and for our freedom on foreign shores. They spent their lives in civil service, giving everything they had to help one another, their neighbors, and even a stranger. They are the people between the pages of our history books, behind the scenes. They made our world go around, but never wanted the spot light. They touched so many, and their influence lives on in their families, which they still found the time to raise.

This site is dedicated to my family and families of  the thousands today, who wear a badge in the name of protecting those who never give them a second thought when they lay their head down to rest at night. The thousands who stand ready to respond when they get the call, give everything they have, even their life, for someone they have never met before nor may never see again. The thousands whose eyes have witnessed the very worst in this world, but never surrender their beliefs or honor, and continue to come back for more, making the difference in many lives and making this world a better place, one call at a time. These are the people we owe the most to, but when was the last time we just said "thank you" to a police officer, or a firefighter, or a medic or doctor, or a person in the service. Yet as you read this, they are there, away from their own families, and will come running when you pick up that phone and call. This page reflects many families like mine who have given and continue to give so much to make this world safer for us and our children, and the millions across this great nation. So sleep well America, you couldn't be in better hands.

My father was a fireman, he drove a big red truck,
And when he'd go to work each night, he'd say, "Mother wish me luck".
Then Dad would not come home again, 'til sometime the next day,
But the thing that bothered me most, was the things some folks would say.
A fireman's life is easy, he eats and sleeps and plays,
And sometimes he don't fight a fire for days and days and days.
When I first heard these comments, I was too young to understand
Cause I knew, when people had trouble Dad was there to lend a hand.
Then my father went to work one day and kissed us all good-bye,
But little did we realize, that night, we all would cry.
My father gave his life that night, when the floor gave way below,
And I wondered why he'd risk his life, for someone he didn't know.
But now I realize, the greatest gift a man could give,
Is to lay his life upon the line, so that someone else may live.
So as we go from day to day, and we pray to God above,
Say a prayer for your local fireman, he may save the one you love.
