The Boston Red Sox were playing the Chicago White Sox at Fenway park, and  fathers across America were playing with their children, it was Father's Day, 1972. However the fathers who were protecting the Back Bay that day had no time to do either, as they were responding to box 1571. By 3:06 p.m., while their children waited for them to return home in just a few hours to celebrate their day, their daddies were going into harms way, as they were responding to a forth alarm at box 1571.
The fire was at the hotel Vendome, built in 1872, and it was undergoing one of its many renovations throughout the years. The fire was noticed in one of the upper floors around 2 o'clock that afternoon. The fire was a stubborn fire, yet was contained by 5 o'clock.
At 5:28, during overhaul operations, the southeast wall gave way without warning, taking 9 of Boston's bravest to their death. 9 fathers unselflessly gave there lives while protecting the citizens of Boston, and they would never again hear the words "happy fathers day daddy."
