Nest 1, Tuesday, 6/08/04 Anne A., Kathy K., Karen N. and Liz R. found 126 eggs just north of POA 16 in Zone 2. Since this nest was laid near the rock revetment in an area subject to flooding during Spring High Tides and is and subject to flooding 125 eggs were relocated to area just south of POA 15 with an assist from Adam H. and Judy D. Expect hatch date 6/08 + 58 = 8/05 Date of first emergence 8/01
With the help of a visiting
turtle authority, B. B. Lowery, 121 empty shells Nest 2, Thursday, 6/10 Leon L., Karen N. found 150 eggs in Zone 2 south of POA 11 (Pompano) just above the high tide mark. Jane P., Andra K. and Margit R. assisted in relocating 146 eggs straight back to a higher and dryer location. Expect hatch date 6/10 + 58 = 8/07 On the night of July 31 this nest was In danger of being washed out to sea by a storm driven 'spring' high tide. During a severe rain storm the nest was excavated and moved further back out of harms way by Judy D. and Karen N. Date of first emergence 8/01 Inventoried 8/04 (2 dead hatchlings) 139 empty shells Nest 3, Monday, 6/21 Susan B., Mary G. & Darnell K. in Zone 1 south of POA 2 just above the high tide mark with the help of Linda & Larry K. The nest was left in situ as it was deposited on the top of an escarpment. 7/3/04, As this nest was in danger of being washed away by the July spring tide 134 eggs were relocated directly back to the seaward side of a dune just south of POA 2. This was done by the team members who found it on 6/21/04, Mary G., Susan B. and Darnell K. Expect hatch date 6/21 + 56 = 8/16 Date of first emergence 8/12 77 empty shells Nest 4, Monday, 6/21 Adam H. in Zone 2 at POA 14 just above the high tide mark. Adam H. & Karen N, with an assist from Leon L. relocated 91 eggs to a higher spot in an area just north of POA 14. Expect hatch date 6/21 + 56 = 8/16 Date of first emergence 8/13 87 empty shells Nest 5, Saturday, 6/26 Linda & Larry K. & Gary B., found Nest #5 in Zone 1 immediately south of POA #2 just above the high tide mark. The nest was left in situ as it was deposited on the top of an escarpment. 7/10/04, This nest was consistently being washed over by the full moon high tides this past week. Expect hatch date 6/26 + 55 = 8/20 This nest failed to hatch. All 110 eggs were found unhatched after 65 days. Nest 6, Tuesday 6/29 Anne A. in zone 2,just south of the Beach Club stairway. Due to the high level of activity at this location, Kathy K., Liz R. and Karen N. relocated 110 eggs to an area just north of the Beach Club. Expect hatch date 6/29 + 54 = 8/22 Date of first emergence 8/21 Inventoried 8/24 (0 dead hatchlings) 103 empty shells Nest 7, Monday 7/05 Mary G., Darnell K. & Susan B. found 118 eggs in a low area in Zone 1 immediately south of POA #2. 116 eggs were relocated to the side of a dune just south of POA 2 next to nest 3. Expect hatch date 7/05 + 52 = 8/26 Date of first emergence 8/23 Inventoried 8/26 (0 dead hatchlings) 109 empty shells Nest 8 Monday 7/05 Gary B., Linda K. & Larry K. in Zone #2 just past the wrack line north of POA #10. 122 eggs were relocated almost straight back to a higher and dryer area. Expect hatch date 7/05 + 52 = 8/26 `Date of first emergence 8/25 Inventoried 8/28 (1 dead hatchlings) 117 empty shells Nest 9, Tuesday 7/06 Nest 9 was found by Kathy K. just above the high tide mark in front of the beach club. Anne A., Liz R. and Karen N. relocated 132 eggs to the area in front of Capt. John Fripp Villa's, alongside Nest #1. Expect hatch date 7/06 + 52 = 8/27 `Date of first emergence 8/26 Inventoried 8/29 (1 dead hatchlings) 124 empty shells |
