Monday, May 22nd

Nest 1 was found just south of POA 2 by Karen N. and was left in situ on the face of a slope. Mary G., Jane T., Betsy K., Gary B., Micki M., Jackie E. and the interns all worked very hard to locate this nest.

Friday, May 26

Nest 2 was found just north of POA 2 by Karen N.  Jane T., Ben T., Linda S., and Linda W. relocated 140 eggs  to an area just south of POA 2. (143 were laid but a Ghost crab ate 3 eggs during nesting, the shells were found on top of the nest.

Saturday, May 27

Nest 3 was found just north of POA 2 by Tony N.  and with the help of Karen N. and Mike P. 143 eggs were relocated to a higher area just south of POA 2. She was a large turtle and dug a deep hole.

Nest 4 was found just south of POA 2 by Mike P. 
and was left in situ on relatively high ground.

Saturday, June 3

Nest 5 was found just south of POA 11 by Karen N. and was left in situ just above the base of the dune line.

Because this area started to experience erosion at the dune line and this nest was over washed several times exposing the top layer of eggs it was decided to relocate it to higher sand on June 24 123 eggs were relocated although 34 of these no longer looked viable.

Nest 6 was found on the sand bar across from  POA 7 by Gary B. 108 eggs were relocated to the area
just south of POA 2 with the help of Jackie E. and the interns.

Tuesday, June 6

Nest 8  Rich & Bonnie C. and  Jean K  found this nest of 148 eggs at the wrack line in front of POA 14. One egg had been depredated by a ghost crab and 147 eggs were relocated straight back to higher ground. This was Bonnie's first nest.

Inventoried 8/06 (1 dead hatchling) and we discovered that one hatchling that was sightless. in that it eyes were sealed shut and it had no perceptible orbs.

Thursday, June 8

Nest 9  Tony N. found this nest of 129 eggs on the open beach south of  POA 2 with the help of Cindy and Robbie White, visiting from Roswell Ga., who pointed out the faint outline of a turtle track on a very windswept beach. Karen N., Jane P. & Betsy K. relocated 128 eggs back to higher ground. One egg was lost during probing.

Saturday, June 10

Nest 10
Was found at POA 14 by Betsy K. assisted by Martha B & Dickie B. This nest was left in situ as it was located a safe distant from high tide line. One egg was lost during probing. A group of people observed the turtle laying her eggs on Friday night and some returned Saturday morning and gave helpful information in locating the eggs.

Monday, June 19

Nest 17 Was found by Betsy K., Gary B., and Micki M. just south of POA 2. Since the nest was in a low lying area prone to flooding the 123 eggs were relocated to a small dune in the immediate area.

Tuesday, June 20

Nest 18 A ghost crab turned up the mystery nest that was laid on 6/12/06  out on the flat beach in zone #1, opposite POA 5 (an empty egg shell laying out on top, a torn egg in the crab hole). 

We now have Nest 18 as a result and have relocated 131 of the 133 eggs to the face of a sand dune  south of POA 2. The eggs at the top of the nest were pink but halfway down the eggs dark gray in color and the nest was wet.  KC (crab control), Margit R., Linda W., Karen N., Tony N., Rich C., Bonnie C., Jean K. et al.

found just North of Rock Beauty. A group of beach chairs surrounded the body pit. She may have had an audience last evening or perhaps thought it a good spot with that many chairs around. Wednesday, July 19

 Nest 26 was found just just north of Rock Beauty, by Betsy K. along with Mary G.  and Phyllis C. The nest was left in situ. The mother turtle came ashore sometime before high tide at 3:30 this morning, and crawled thru someone's beach tent to find a nice high spot in the dry sand. When she finished laying her eggs she crawled thru a second tent to make her exit.

 Wild Nest 1 Gary B. found many hatchling tracks coming from a depression south of POA 2. This is one of the nests we had previously marked off with a "?" after the evidence was blown away during a period of very high winds on June 12-15.

Monday August 7

 Wild Nest 2 Karen N.. found a depression and some tracks south of POA 2. This is one of the nests we had previously marked off with a "?" on July 1st. after the evidence was blown away during a period of very high winds and the body pit was covered by a foot of soft sand .
