Stacey's help in bringing supplies was much appreciated, as was the support of Debbie Reichle, a loggerhead enthusiast who has enjoyed visiting during her parents' patrols and inventories these past 4 years. We enjoyed describing our activity to the folks walking the beach who were interested in observing our work and learning more about these amazing creatures. It was rewarding to hear a grandmother repeating what she had just learned to her grandchildren when they arrived. Sharing her new knowledge and encouraging their interest. We are also indebted to her for taking our "team photos" this morning .

Nest 79 was located just south of POA 20 behind a landward facing dune. Renee noticed a bunch of tracks going to the back of the dunes. Upon further investigation, we found a crescent shaped hole in the backside of the dune, which turned out to be a wild nest. Hatchlings went down hill towards houses, but fortunately no lights were on, as we were able to follow the tracks back out towards the ocean. Karen N.

Thursday, September 02
Nest 80 was located at POA 16 south. After following one track here and one track there, behind the dunes and back into the front of the dunes, I spotted a very slight depression up high in the sand dune that didn't seem to be connected to anything. After digging down, I found some nice white empty shells. This, plus some fresh tracks nearby, led me to believe the nest hatched very recently. Karen N.
