"The Coriolis Force reflects the zoned speed at which points on the surface of the earth are traveling through space at different latitudes. If you move to the north of where you are, you will be spinning in space a little slower. If you suddenly step from the center of a spinning platform, you are likely to fall on your face, just as you would if a truck should move off quickly with you standing on the bed; and for the same reason. It is the same way on the globe of the world. In the Northern Hemisphere each little move toward the south accelerates your eastward speed and each shift northward decelerates you. If you only had the right sort of very sensitive accelerometer you would be able to say how far north or south you had moved, and in that way calculate your new latitude."
