Treatment Philosophy

Counseling effectiveness is optimized when each individual is fully respected as the capable of exercising choices that affect his or her life. Clients are viewed as having a personal family, religious, and cultural history that is uniquely their own and how they plan to chart the course of their future should be supported and respected in the counseling relationship. All individuals are believed to be motivated by psychological, physical and spiritual aspects of their lives and counseling must take all factors into consideration. Specific treatment philosophy used is that of Solution-Focused, Brief Treatment.

This form of counseling places greater relative emphasis on the solution to a problem, rather than a discussion of the problem itself. The orientation is toward creating the reality for a time when the particular problem at hand no longer is present. This approach places maximum choice for change in the hands of the client and conveys hope that there are solutions to all problems that are encountered in life.

The treatment approach used also relies heavily on Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment. This is an emphasis on the role that our thoughts play in influencing both our behavior and feelings. When we examine our underlying thought processes, attempt to change those assumptions and perceptions of problems - whether they be internal or interpersonal - and substitute more workable thoughts, we find that our typical patterns of behaving also change.
