Tue May 06
Nest 01 Fripp's first loggerhead nest was found today.  It was a quick find for Pebbles and Heather.. The nest was laid at POA 04s, in a low area below the mean high tide line. Relocated to a seaward side of a nearby dune at POA 05n.  72 eggs were laid with 1 taken for research.  Thank you to Laurie for bringing supplies, and everyone else out there for your help and support Karen, Mickey, Ellen, Gayla & Jennifer

Nest 02 Located at POA 26n this morning. 101 eggs were in the nest. 95 eggs were relocated to POA 25s on the seaward side of the dune.  Thanks to Mickey for finding the eggs. Thanks to Julie for the supplies. And thanks to everyone for the moral support. Michelle W. and Hannah K.

Nest 03 at POA 28s. 126 eggs, with one of them removed for research. Since the nest was laid below the mean high tide line it was relocated to POA 25s. Linnea T., and Claire G.

Nest 04 was located at POA 19n. In the driving rain, 101 eggs were safely relocated directly behind the nest that was laid at the high tide line. Sarah and Richard W.

Nest 05 was located at POA 19s. Turtle went up over the dune, laid her eggs and couldn't get back out the same way. She spent a lot of time and energy meandering her way back out eventually finding an accessible spot further north, making finding the actual nest challenging. 137 of the 140 eggs were relocated to the front of the dune at POA 19s. was located at POA 23n and left in situ with one egg taken for research by Jen and Ellen.

Nest 07
was located at POA 25n and 125 eggs relocated to the face of a dune at the same location. With one egg for research, also by Jen and Ellen.


Thu May 15
Nest 08 was located at POA 01B close to the high tide line. 117 eggs were relocated to a seaward side of a sloping dune at POA 1Bn. This turtle appears to be the same turtle who attempted to nest in Zone 1 on Tuesday, and in Zone 3 on Wednesday. The tracks are the same each day in each photo indicating a damaged or missing right rear flipper. We call her "Stumpy"

Nest 09 located in the beach access path at POA 25.  161 eggs were relocated to the face of ac dune at POA 25n. Egg number 162 was sacrificed for the DNA research program. Richard W. found the nest. Karen dug the new hole. Richard and Sarah W. moved the eggs and Julie and Laurie brought supplies.

Nest 10 was found at POA 02n by Ross. Karen helped solve the puzzle created by the turtle exiting back over her incomming track. 115 eggs were relocated to seaward facing dune at POA 03n. Thanks to Michael and Julia Pitts for supplies and Pebbles and Barney for moral support

Nest 11 was found at POA 27n in the flats below the high tide line.  It was a classic nest, with thrown sand and a crescent shaped turn. The nest chamber was located by Vanessa P. One egg was taken for research and 148 eggs were relocated to a high, seaward facing dune at POA 26s.  Many thanks to Richard and Sarah W. for assisting with supplies and carrying a heavy load of eggs.

Nest 12 was found at POA 02. It was a fluffy nest and a bit deceiving at first, but we were able to find it. A total of 129 eggs were relocated, with 1 egg set aside for research. The nest was moved straight back to a seaward-facing dune, safely away from the high tide and wrack line.

Nest 13 was located this morning at POA 25n. Rob found the nest just above the last high tide line, so the eggs were relocated to the seaward side of a nearby dune above the mean high tide line. 134 eggs were laid, 133 eggs were relocated to the new nest and one taken for DNA testing. Heather and Ava removed the eggs from the original nest and Ava got to prep 1 egg for the DNA research project.

Nest 14 was found by Vanessa below HTL in the flat part of the beach at POA 26n. 102 eggs relocated straight back to a seaward facing dune above MHTL.One egg used for DNA research.

Nest 15 located at POA 03s. Hannah found the nest, which contained 111 eggs with one taken for research 110 eggs were relocated just a little farther south. Big thanks to Laurie for bringing the supplies, Pebs grand-niece Lily Wren helped count the eggs, and grand-nephew Ace for built a wrack runway.

Nest 16 at POA 26n with 141 eggs 140 of which were relocated to high ground at POA 25s with extra help from Mikes oldest grandson Andy.

Nest 17 as located by Pebbles (with Karen's probe) just north of POA 01B.Total number of eggs 168 with one egg submtted for DNA testing, 167 eggs were relocated to a seaward facing dune north of POA 01B.

Nest 18 was located at POA 25s by Sarah and moved higher up in the dune with Karen's help. 137 eggs relocated. Number 138 was submiitted for the DNA projecct Thank you Julie for bringing supplies.

Nest 19 was found at POA 27s next to the beach access. This turtle went up to the rocks, turned and eventually found a good spot to bury her eggs. The nest was left in situ, and 1 egg was taken for research.  Thanks to Richard for all the assistance, and thanks to Julie for bringing supplies.

Nest 20 . At POA 18. This was Julie's first nest; she is hooked. Relocated 165 eggs a little further back where there was more slope and further away from foot traffic. Number 166 was taken for research. Thanks to Sarah for helping relocate all those eggs. Thanks to Julia for the supplies.

Wed June 04
Nest 21 was encountered at POA 29s, next to the access.  The turtle walked in, hit the rocks, turned and dug her nest in the high wrack line. Cesar quickly found the chamber and since the nest was on a seaward facing slope the the nest was left in situ. One egg was taken for research.

Nest 22 at POA 06n Michael found it and relocated 112 eggs to POA 05n.

Nest 23 at POA 28s. It appeared to be Stumpy!  She tried three places. We had witnesses (the Cooper family) who saw her digging in the 3rd place so that helped. Wendy probed 4 times and found the nest. Very shallow with 17 broken eggs. We relocated 115 eggs to POA 25n.Sent one of the broken eggs for DNA research.

Nest 24 Wendy Monroe and Donna C. at POA 22n. encountered the turtle at the water’s edge. She was magnificent and about 34” wide. Beautiful sight as she submerged. Relocated 112 eggs to seaward facing dune . One egg held for research.

Nest 25 was Mickey's first nest of the 2025 season at POA 16n, containing 107 eggs. One egg was collected for research, and the remaining 106 eggs were relocated slightly north of POA 17 (away from beach club and church area).

Nest 26 at POA 27n.Bill M. found this nest. It was left in situ as it was above the mean high tide line. Special thanks to Donna and Wendy for digging the new nest and to Laura for running supplies all over the South end of the beach.

Nest 27 Laurie G. located her first nest just south of POA 07 well above the mean high tide line. The nest was left in situ, 1 taken for research.

Nest 28 at POA 15n. Cathy found the nest with 90 eggs and she and Colleen relocated 89 further back above the mean hightide line. One egg saved for research. Thanks go out to Michael and Julia for bringing supplies and digging the new home.

Nest 30 Colleen discovered the nest just north of POA 04. The turtle crawled around a bit on the beach and nested in an old rack line. They moved 90 of the 92 eggs slightly back onto a seaward-facing dune to keep them out of the high tide zone. One egg was taken for research. Thanks to Pat for bringing supplies and to assist us.

Nest 31 was located by Karen at POA 17s in a low lying area. 99 eggs were relocated to a seaward side of the dune directly back. Sarah and Richard helped by bringing supplies, digging a new hole and relocated 99 eggs.

Nest 35 was found this morning at POA 26n by Deb Tucker who had her first nest of the season. Relocated 119 eggs (one was kept for research) to a seaward facing dune above the mean high tide line at POA 26s.

Nest 36 at POA 20 located the egg chamber at the end the body pit.  Relocated 157 eggs to the dune right behind the original location and kept 1 egg out for research.

Nest 37 was located at POA 11 and left in situ It was orginally thought to be an NNE, with all the wind hiding the incoming and outgoing tracks. Upon further investigation,
on top of the dune, in what turned out to be the apex of the crawl,  broken and uprooted vegetation was found. Digging down by hand, into that area, the eggs were discovered. It's tricky enough with a body pit, it's even more tricky with no body pit and hardly anything leading up to the nest chamber. Karen N.

Nest 38 north of POA 22. Textbook crawl and nest, straight in and out with the eggs found right where they should be. Relocated 141 eggs to the dune directly behind the nest. 1 egg was taken for research.

Nest 39 at Skull Creek aka Sunset Beach. This turtle walked all over the beach and finally found a place to nest near the rocks. This nest had to be relocated as ths area overwashes frequently. 158 eggs were laid (1 taken for reach), and the nest was relocated to POA 26 North.

Nest 40 at POA 26n. Gayla found the nest chamber with only 1 or 2 probes. The nest was left in situ with one egg taken for research.

Nest 41 was located by Pebbles and Bev, just north of POA 01B. Relocated 104 eggs up into the dune for safety (1 egg went to the DNA research project).

broken and burried vegitation leading to the location of the nest chamber. Thank you Sarah and Richard for bringing supplies

Nest 44 was located by Monette, at POA 4 north. 109 eggs total. 108 eggs relocated directly back to a seaward side of the dune.

Nest 45 was found by Linda S. at POA 32n. It was Linda's first nest of the season. 136 eggs but 3 were broken. 133 eggs relocated to POA 29s above MHTL on a seaward facing dune.

Nest 47 Wendy M has “the touch”, and adeptly located the nest at POA 03s with 90 eggs. One was held for research. 89 eggs relocated to forward facing dune at POA 03n.

Nest 49 at POA 29n. The turtle came in and then out over the same track with two attemps at a body pit requiring an all hands assist with Michelle and Rich locating the nest chamber. Left in situ.

Nest 50 at POA 22s. Nancy's first nest of the season, identified by thrown sand covering broken wrack and with one probe and a short dig and eggs were found. One was taken for research and the rest left in situ high on the dune way above the mean high tide line.

Nest 51 Laurie located this egg chamber just north of POA 17. It was below the mean high tide line which necessated relocation of the nest directly behind the original nest on a seaward facing dune. 99 eggs in the new, relocated location, 1 for the DNA research project. Karen & Laurie

Nest 52 Julie found nest 52 just north of POA 16 and found 119 eggs. Wendy came by and helped relocate 118 eggs (1 for research) to a dune just north of the original and on higher ground.

Nest 53 Sarah at POA 19s. Relocated 156 eggs to the sloped dune next to POA 19s. 1 egg was taken for research. A beach camera recorded the turtle crawling back to the water at 5:40am.

Nest 54 was found just north of POA 26. It was a lovely, classic loggerhead nest. Therese and Vanessa probed and the chamber was quickly located. Cesar and Therese extracted 160 eggs for relocation to a seaward facing dune at 26n. Two eggs were broken; one was taken for research.

Monette and Sarah located nest 55 at POA 04s. 114 eggs were relocated to the dune directly back. 1 egg was taken for research.

Nest 56 Karen got a call at 08:15 that there was a turtle at POA 01Bs digging her nest, Ava, Karen and Cesar dug and removed 91 eggs from the hole. Claire and Cesar dug a new nest for relocation in a seaward facing dune at POA 01Bs. Vanessa took one egg for research, leaving 90 eggs in the nest. The opportunity to observe a nesting loggerhead turtle on a beautiful summer morning never gets old!

Nest 57 at POA 22s with 120 eggs; 1 held for research and the rest relocated to seaward facing dune at POA 22s. Tracks were long and there was no significant tuft but Wendy the sleuth pinpointed the area and Donna located the chamber. This was Donna's first. .

Sarah, Richard and Karen located the nest at POA 22s. 153 eggs right above the rack line. 152 eggs were relocated to a nearby dune above the mean high tide line. 1 egg was taken for research.

Karen and Richard above the wrack line; but below the mean high tide line. 115 eggs were relocated to a seaward side of a nearby dune at POA 16s. Number 116 was taken for the DNA research project.

Nest 65 at POA 19s classic crawl; called Therese in to help and we found the nest chamber just above the wrack line. With Marina's help; relocated 119 eggs straight back above the mean high tide line.


Thu July 03
Nest 66 was found north of POA 22. The crawl was a short one with a clear body pit and thrown sand. Ava probed and immediately found the nest. Ava and Heather removed 100 eggs from the original nest location, and 99 were relocated with 1 taken for DNA testing.
